Federica Marcer

Federica is a veterinarian, parasitologist and specialist on Animal Health and Production, graduated at the University of Bologna (Italy), followed by a PhD in emerging parasitic diseases in aquaculture at the University of Turin (Italy) with a training period in the “Thad Cochran National Warm water Aquaculture Center, Fish Diagnostic Laboratory” Mississippi State University, Stoneville MS (USA). She initially worked at the Fish Pathology Laboratory, Department of Veterinary Public Health and Animal Pathology, University of Bologna on parasitic diseases of marine and freshwater fish, including fish borne parasitic zoonoses. Currently she is an Associate Professor working at the Department of Animal Medicine, Production and Health, University of Padova, Italy. Her main research topics include parasitic diseases of aquatic organisms, in particular epidemiological and diagnostic aspects of diseases of marine mammals and sea turtles; morphological and molecular characterizations of parasites in these host species. She collaborates as parasitologist with CERT (Cetaceans stranding Emergency Response Team), a National Task Force financed by the Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea, and with the Mediterranean Marine Mammals Tissue Bank, both located at the University of Padova (Dept. Comparative Biomedicine and Food Science). Recently, she was in the organizing committee for the XXXII National Conference of the Italian Society of Parasitology (SoIPa). She is currently Section Editor and Associate Editor for the International peer-reviewed Journals Parasitology Research and Frontiers in Veterinary Science respectively. She is a member of SoIPa, Italian Society of Fish Pathology (S.I.P.I.) and European Cetaceans Society (ECS).
